Video Games to Keep an Eye On

So anyone can probably guess, but I am a big fan of video games. While I particularly love a good role-playing game I’ve also been known to enjoy horror and thrillers, and with E3 showing us some absolutely amazing trailers and gameplay footage, I’ve decided to compile a list for everybody on what games I think you should keep your eye on. Whether it’s because they look fantastic and I’m excited to play them, or there is just so much mystery and confusion surrounding them that it’s worth a check to see if the game is worth the hype. So here we go.

  1. Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines 2
A guilty pleasure of mine has always been vampires (I did a college essay on them guys, that’s how deep it goes) so it really shouldn’t be a surprise that I love the tabletop role-playing game Vampire: the Masquerade. So when the first Bloodlines game came out in 2004 and became a cult classic I was definitely interested (at least when I turned 13 and found out about it). After watching countless play-throughs by others and finally getting to play the game myself, I was devastated to learn that there was no sequel. So imagine my joy when I discovered that Paradox Interactive had gotten the rights to make a sequel. The trailers have shown some interesting concepts and because I already decided to preorder the game, I got clan introduction videos too that have got me really excited. I have faith that Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines 2 will turn out to be an epic urban fantasy that we all can sink our teeth into.

2. Man of Medan

From Supermassive Games, the minds behind the breakout horror video game hit Until Dawn, comes the new Man of Medan, to be the first in a series of horror anthology games. This survival horror game will force you, the player, to make choices that will change the narrative as you play. Similar to Until Dawn with its use of the butterfly effect (showing that everything you do has consequences for you and those around you) Man of Medan will focus more on the concept of the moral compass. So will your logic steer you to survival or will your emotions point you to safer waters? With Supermassive, you never know if there truly is a right or wrong decision to make. You can only hope that you will survive the terrors of the ghost ship known as the Man of Medan!

3. Death Stranding

I’ll be honest, I was pretty confused when I saw the very first trailer for Death Stranding a little over a year ago. Don’t get me wrong, Norman Reedus seems awesome in the footage I have seen so far, but even after the new trailers and gameplay demos I’ve seen courtesy of 2019 E3, I’m still pretty confused as to what exactly is going on in the game. Is Norman playing a courier in a post alien apocalypse or is this a world where we’ve taken scientific advancement too far? Is Mads Mikkelsen’s character a good guy, or are we being tricked into thinking he’s a good guy when really he’s responsible for all the shadow creature things? Also what are those shadow creature things and what exactly are they doing? Are they some sort of decaying force where they’re speeding up the aging process until they’ve turned their victims to dust or is it something else?
I truly have no clue as to how successful or good the story of the game is going to be, but the visuals are positively otherworldly and I’m curious to see more of the universe and hopefully get some answers to my questions.

4. CyberPunk 2077

From being the best surprise of 2018’s E3 to one of the most anticipated games of 2020 Cyberpunk 2077 has become the talk of the gaming community. Based on the pen and paper roleplaying game called Cyberpunk 2020 it’s video game counterpart is being made by CD PROJEKT RED the same people that brought us The Witcher video game franchise. I can pretty much guarantee that any gamer has heard of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt which won game of the year in 2015 and is still one of the most universally loved games in video gaming. Seriously I haven’t met a single person that didn’t like The Witcher 3, and we all know how much the internet and especially gamers love to hate on everything. So I’m expecting some great things from CyberPunk 2077 and I have a good feeling that CD PROJEKT RED isn’t going to disappoint. With Keenau Reeves in it, you know that at the very least, this is going to be a futuristic action-packed romp through the world of Night City where we’re going to have a lot of fun!

5. Watch Dogs Legion

If you think I’m not intrigued by a London set game where a band of hackers and rebels are starting a revolt against a totalitarian private military force then you’ve got another thing coming. From the fact that you get to play as a wide selection of characters with different skills, and also getting to recruit other characters to your resistance, to the game being full of awesome parkour and fighting, and, of course, what the Watch Dogs series is known for, hacking other people’s technology for your group’s benefit. If that doesn’t sound fun then did I forget to mention that the character’s will be wearing cool masks during gameplay? Just picture it, the people who brought you Assassins Creed are now giving you a game where you’re rebelling against a privatized government fighting, hacking, and stealing to try and take London back, all while wearing awesome masks and outfits. How does that not sound epic?

And there you have it my list of video games to keep an eye out for in the upcoming year. Did I miss a game you are personally excited for? Got some inside gamer info that I need to hear? Or do you just wanna talk video games? Then feel free to leave a comment and tell me about it.
